An Untimely Death
On our way home from the store today, out of nowhere, Virginia began crying that she doesn't want me to die. She doesn't want to grow up. She doesn't want me to be a grandma. She wants me to stay exactly as I am today and never grow old. I was exactly like her when I was a girl. I vividly remember crying for fear that my parents would die, that I'd ever have to spend a day without them. Like Virginia and Ella, I wanted to live forever at home. I always feel a little sad when the girls bring up death; today was no exception. Today, however, Jude gave a new perspective and a little comic relief. As Virginia sobbed, Jude chimed in, "So, who's gonna take care of us when you and daddy die?" I gave him the low down on our plans for the kids should we suffer an untimely death. He just smiled, shrugged, raised his hands to the air in question and said, "So we'd just get a new mommy and daddy. Okay!"
