My Husband is a Cheese Maker: Part II

Last weekend we decided to cut into our aging cheddar.  Notice Ella's spelling on the label:  "chetter."  This was an improvement over her first label, which read "chudder."  Either, way, her little labels are precious to me, and I'm saving them for posterity.  I'm sure that one day we'll be glad that I save all of my kids' little scraps of paper.  These scraps fill in many of the gaps that are evident in my blog.  Anyhow, this entry is supposed to be about cheese.  The cheese was delicious!  Kudos to Daniel who did all of the work.  Unfortunately, he was not as pleased with the cheese as was the rest of the family.  Something about the aftertaste, he said, gave him the impression of mold.  One friend said the cheese seemed a cross between cheddar and parmesan.  I thought it tasted a bit like a port wine cheese.  However you describe it, it was homemade with raw cow milk that we bought at a local farm.   Daniel made it by himself with his homemade cheese press.  He never ceases to amaze me with all of his interests and talents.  I get excited when I imagine all of the interesting things we'll do in retirement.  I'm lucky to be married to someone who has way more imagination and motivation than I do.

Hah! Yes! I often say that. "If it weren't for Tommy, no one would ever have any fun around here." He keeps promising us a dang outdoor pizza oven...and then it becomes a tandoori oven. And then I'm all "I don't care what you call it. Just make me something yummy!"

The cheese is so impressive!

Same here. Anthony can and does do everything. I complain about trying new things and then later feel lame because the new things always turn out fun.

Making your own cheese sounds awesome. I made whey, but that's easy. Chudder is advanced stuff.
