The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for our immediate vicinity this evening. The kids and I took cover in our downstairs bathroom. The girls carted in pillows and blankets, while I brought along my laptop, my phone, and Jude. I was tracking the storm from the bathroom as Daniel drove home. I called him to let him know that he and the storm were following the same path and that he should be careful. When Virginia realized that Daniel would be out in the storm, she got pretty worked up. I suggested that the girls pray for safety from the storm. Here's what transpired:
Ella: Please God, keep us safe from the storm. Please bless daddy and our toys. Please keep all of our toys safe.
Virginia: My daddy, bless my daddy. Please don't let him die.
Ella: Well, if someone I care about dies in a tornado, it's no big deal. I'd just throw myself into the tornado too, so that I'd die. Then I wouldn't have to worry about missing that person.
And all I could think was, "thank God I cleaned this bathroom today. Last time we had to take cover, someone had just had an accident. At least there's no pee on the floor."
