Ella: So mom, which kind of bird can drive?
Mom: What? Drive what?
Ella: A car. Daddy says that birds can drive cars.
Mom: Are you sure he said that? I don't think any bird can drive.
Ella: Why not?
Mom: Can you think of some reasons why a bird might not be able to drive my car?
Ella: Hmm . . . well, I know that daddy said it.
Mom: Let's call him . . .
. . . Hi Daniel. Ella tells me that you told her that birds can drive.
Daniel: Well, I told her that ostriches are big, but I don't think I told her they can drive. I also told her that some hawks and eagles can carry away small animals and children, but I don't think I mentioned cars. Maybe she meant toy cars.
Mom: Are you talking about toy cars, Ella?
Ella: Yes, that's right. Some birds can carry toys, not drive cars. That's what he said.
Note that Ella latched onto the idea of birds carrying away toys, not small children. I find that odd.
