Nights are usually a bit of a challenge in the Davis household. It doesn't matter how tired the girls are, they never want to go to sleep, and boy do they put up a fight. We were recently having a wreck of a night, and I was at my wits end when Virginia gave us a little comic relief.
Virginia: Mommy, look at what I discovered. (She uncurls her hands to expose something).
Mommy: What's that, Virginia? (Note: her hands are empty).
Virginia: This is Sherman, my wormin. He's very fragile. He's glass.
Mommy: Well, be really gentle when you tuck him into bed with you.
exit mommy
Later, Virginia appears in the hall with tears in her eyes. She looks very distraught.
Mommy: What's wrong Gingie?
Virginia: Ella stole my wormin.
enter mommy and Virginia into the girls' room
Mommy: Ella, did you take Virginia's worm?
Ella: (with disbelieving eyes) Uhh . . . yes. Here Virginia, here is Sherman.
Mommy: What do you say to Virginia?
Ella: Sorry for stealing your worm.
Virginia: It's okay. (sniff, sniff)
the girls fall asleep.
Note: During this post, I was disturbed by a thunderous crashing, followed immediately by screams and cries. I threw the computer, jumped off the couch, ran up the stairs (almost fell), and sprinted to the girls' room. Virginia had assaulted Ella with their reading lamp. Why?
"Because Ella says, 'I hate this room.'"
"I am watching her very closely, mommy."
We removed the lamp from their room.
